Yellow Blue-y Dotty Nails

I'm back with a nail design that features blue color. I know I know, I said a while ago that I do not want to see blue on my nails anymore, but, I'm a sucker for blue. Oh well. I am rather fond of how this design turns out though.

Yellow happens to be my favorite color too. Except that when I wear bright yellow my skin immediately turn rather old and dull. It looks so hideous that I was shock, actually. So I sticked to pale yellow, which brightens up against my skin and looks very striking. Almost like neon.

Polish used: China Glaze Lemon Fizz and China Glaze First Mate.

This design is so simple yet so pretty! However, I do think I'm getting lazy with my designs since they are getting less complicated. I may go back to doing complicated lacy patterns but I am feeling so uninspired now because of the exams. I suppose exams sapped out all creativity from everyone until we are all monotonous robotic drones.

Did You know About A England? Iseult

Hey, after the last swatch of NerdLacquer, I am already eagerly itching to swatch A England, Iseult, but I had to put it off because no way was I taking off an $18 polish after wearing it for 10mins! You can view my NerdLacquer swatch of Don't Blink here

Iseult is a most gorgeous and no doubt most feminine pink I have yet seen. It is a pale pink with shimmer. I got it from SgNails and I was blown back by the shade of pink. Please note that I do not wear pink often, though I love to buy pink polishes! In fact, if I am on a buying spree and I do not have a pink polish in my basket, I feel as if I am missing something and I would throw in a pink polish!

What made me hate pale pink polishes (of all pink polishes) is the fact that if they are not creme, they are almost universally sheer! And I have yet to see a pale pink polish that is creme and pale enough for my liking. Panda-monium pink has the consistency I love but I do wish it is a tad paler.

Now, when I bought Iseult, I was actually quite worried about it being sheer. I had a couple of polishes that I did not used because they are too sheer to cover my VNL even after 5 coats! (OPI I Pink I love you and OPI Pink-ing of you) However, Iseult completely swept away my concerns about its sheerness. It is opaque (I repeat, Opaque!) in 3 coats! Yes, sure, the first coat is sheer, but it builds up nicely in 3 coats.

One thing you have to be careful about this polish is that you have to be extremely careful not to leave streaks because that means you would have to cover that with an extra coats and it will leave your polish thicker and it will take longer to dry. Even with a coat of Seche Vite, I had to redo a couple of fingers because of it. I suggest patience.

The end result is so feminine and soft and totally worth the extra effort. I would definitely wear it more if the application was easier. I think I will try again soon.

I have a couple of polishes coming in too. I cannot wait to get my hands on Tristam! I want to see if it is as awesome as it is rumored to be! I am also debating whether to get Zoya Charla, a gorgeous blue-green sparkle. It is a dupe of OPI Catch me in Your Net.

I am having posts scheduled till mid-May but I will probably be checking in from time to time. That means the swatches will have to wait till then!

Bought: Nail Stripping Tape

I am still studying for exams.. that means I am still on my polish spree. I have spent $100 so far and I'm so poor.. I started with NerdLacquer Don't Blink and A England Iseult, followed by nail tape and Zoya Trixie, Crystal and Apple, and finally A England Tristam and Dragon. And these polishes don't come cheap too. I am on the verge of ordering Zoya Charla when I got this strange thought in my head: I probably should RETHINK buying this. Isn't that odd?

Anyway, I got this tape here and the kind vendor threw in some rhinestones too! So what if I have too many rhinestones and these are probably going to go into my nail art box? It's a freebie and EVERYONE loves freebies!

The tape was really small, it took me by surprise. I thought it would be normal tape size but apparently these are TINY. I wondered for a while if there are two different sizes of tape, because it really does not look this small when I looked up the pictures on the web.

So I took a picture that is similar to the picture I saw and it was the same size! Nope, it is supposed to be this small, I guess. It is still rather surprising though.

So, I tried the tape on. I wanted to do a cross mani like ChalkboardNails but it failed. So I would not insult you by posting pictures of the disaster here.

That's it! I'll post more of my attempts at Tape Mani here!

Mint Lightning Nails

I am taking a hiatus from blue polishes. Just the thought of blue makes me what to *vomit*. I still love blue, but not when you are wearing them all day. Today, I looked into the mirror and realized that I have on blue shorts, blue striped bag and sporting a blue manicure and pedicure. Gosh!

I decided to go into green.

You can see I smudged my lightning on my index finger and pinky. I'm not very good at judging when the polish dries.. so I often messed up when I paint the top coat.

This is China Glaze Refresh Mint, with the lightning drawn with a brush dipped into China Glaze Liquid Leather. I like this design. I think it look rather bold and striking. And contrary to what my bf say, I was not inspired by Harry Potter when I did this. LOL!

Did You Know About: NerdLacquer? Don't Blink

Today's shipment comprises of two very special polish: A England Iseult and NerdLacquer Don't Blink. I have heard sooooo much about these two indie polishes, about how awesome and unique they are.. When I heard that SgNails stock them, it is as if my dream came true. Of course I had to buy them! Each one retails at $18 each. The delivery is extremely fast, thank god, because I had a sleepless night because of them (too excited). Anyway, they were extremely well packed, with loads of bubble wrap. The envelope has a layer of bubble wrap and the polishes had an additional individual bubble wrap too.

The bottle on the left is Iseult and the bottle on the right is Don't Blink. You can see how awesome the glitters are in Don't Blink in the upclose picture below.

So, I immediately took off my current polish and painted Don't Blink. I wanted to see if it is as good as it is rumored to be.

I painted two coats for each nail, and they cover up pretty well. It is also pretty easy to get the bigger glitters out, and the amazing thing is that, you can still see the glitters in the first layer because the second layer is semi-sheer, yet there is no visible VNL. Prettty awesome huh?

I love how it is greyish but instead of looking dull, it pretty much rocks due to the different sizes silver glitters. Plus no two nails are identical!

This is probably the best picture that I can come up with. Seriously, you have to see it for yourself.

The application was pretty perfect, as smooth as butter when you applied to your nails. The bottle has a weird smell though, not like those normal polish smell, but a different fruity perfumey smell. I am not sure how to describe it. It goes away pretty fast once you close the bottle.

I realize a problem about the time I moved to paint my left hand: what if I finish my bottle of Don't Blink? It's probably stupid since the only polishes that I could ever finish ever since I started buying polishes months ago is my Top Coat and Base Coat. Still, it seems like a reasonable concern to me. Or worse, what if Nerdlacquer stop selling?? Or SgNails stop importing?? *Gasp* Does that mean I have to stockpile them??

I am wearing this now and I am loving it. I am already eyeing other Nerdlacquer, namely, I think You Call Me...Sexy, Event Horizon, Outed by Probots, Shiny, Pinning for Fjords. I have yet to try the A England polish, but once I did, I'll post it up. I have got a long LONG list of posts that are overdue and I have scheduled them over the next few weeks since there might be some interruptions since my exams is next week. On the other hand, the possibility of me being away from my comp? Close to zero.

Did you have any favorite Nerdlacquer that you want to get your hands on?

Blue Patterned Nails!

I wanted to try out another pattern from my plates instead of always using the leopard and zebra ones. I picked this pattern from M84. It reminds me of the Deepavali (for those of you who don't know, it is also called the 'Festival of Light') and looks so beautiful in blue!

Polish used: OPI I vant to be a Lone Star, China Glaze First Mate

I did a special one for my thumb as well. The glitter polish is China Glaze FairyDust. I bought it the day before I did this mani and I want to recommend it to anyone who want a glitter polish. It is really beautiful and glams up any manicure.

What do you think of this nail design? I have to say, stamping is really getting easier and easier for me. =)

Nail Art Competition: The Princess and the Frog

I'm participating in my first ever nail art competition!! I am taking part in the contest held by Neverland Nail Blog. The theme is 'Do You Believe in Magic?', which brings to mind so many happy and wonderful things! Magic makes me think of love, and thus, I did my nails accordingly.

I saw a frog prince nail design so I wanted to do a design that include a frog. When I came across this competition, I decided to incorporate the frog into the design. And ta-da, The Princess and the Frog!

Once upon a time.. there lived a beautiful princess. Everyday she would go to the pond in the garden to play with her golden ball. On that fateful day, her ball dropped into an old well in the corner of the garden. There was nobody around to bring the ball up for her, for the well was too deep and dark for her to climb down herself. Saddened, she dropped to the ground and wailed loudly.

Polishes used:
OPI Pandamonium Pink (Background color) + OPI Alpine Snow + China Glaze Liquid Leather
(Index Finger) OPI Skull and Gloss Bones, China Glaze Concrete Catwalk
(Middle Finger) Beadstreet A43, Rainbow 11
(Ring Finger) TheFaceShop Gold, Raindbow 11, Essie Topless and Barefoot, OPI Get In The Expresso Lane.
(Pinky) Rainbow 11, China Glaze Aquadelic, OPI Skull and Gloss Bones, China Glaze Concrete Catwalk

"Why are you making such a din?" A very annoyed voice spoke up from beside her.
The princess gasped and stopped crying, for no one had ever spoken to her in the tone in her whole pampered life. "My ball fell into the well and I can't get it back," The princess told the frog.
"If I get it back for you, would you let me follow you the whole of today?" The frog asked.
The princess frowned, for the frog was very slimy. She did not want to accept the frog's condition, but she wanted her ball back very much. And so she agreed.
The frog jumped into the well, and appeared a moment later with the golden ball. The princess snatched the ball from the frog and ran back to the palace, ignoring the frog's protests.

My index finger featured a well, followed by the frog, and the princess kissing, and finally the castle where the princess came from.

Dinner came, and the princess descended to the giant dining room for her meal. She had long forgotten about the incident in the day, for she thought it of no consequence. When she settled down in her gold chair, there was a familiar voice.
"Princess, please help me up so I could have dinner with you!"
The princess was so shocked she dropped her silver fork on the floor. When she looked down, she saw the same frog from the afternoon. She was so angry and outraged at the frog that she wanted to kick the frog out of the room. Unfortunately, her father, the King, interfered.
"What is the commotion all about?" He asked, and the princess had no choice but to relate her tale to the king. "You are a princess," The king said, after listening to the tale. "You must keep your promise."

This is my initial design for the nail. There are plenty of details on this paper, and I have made a lot of changes to the actual design on the nail. I guess I got carried away drawing (I do love drawing!) and my nails are too small to feature all my details. Someday I am going to buy a canvas so I can paint to my heart's content.
The princess lay in bed sobbing quietly at night. The frog had ruined her dinner by gulping down all her food in the plate, leaving her with nothing to eat. She was hungry, but the dark look on her father's face stopped her from complaining. She had never seen her father so upset before.
"Princess, may I sleep in your bed tonight?" The frog asked from the doorway.
"No!" She snapped at it angrily.
The frog leaped into the room and onto the bed. He lay a cold webbed hand to her face. "Do not cry Princess. I will leave you if you grant me a kiss."

One more picture of this magical mani! I always wonder about the story about the Princess and the Frog. It always seemed a little bit shallow to me. After all, the princess fell in love after the frog transformed into a prince. And who doesn't love a prince?

A kiss! the princess exclaimed internally. She wanted to snort at the ridiculousness of it but stopped herself. She stared at the frog, who looked rather sincere at that. For once, she felt ashamed of herself. The frog had been helpful to her but she had done nothing but begrudge it her gratitude. Very well, she thought, a kiss it shall be.
To her surprise, when her lips touched the cold skin of the frog, there was a sudden bright light that surrounded the frog. She covered her eyes and when she finally opened her eyes, the frog had disappeared. In its place stood a tall and handsome prince.
"My lovely princess, you have rescued me from an evil curse. I shall forever be in your debt." The prince said with a gracefully executed bow.
A year later, a huge wedding was held in the kingdom. The prince married the princess and they, of course, lived happily ever after!

This is my nail art design. I have included the link to the contest here, so you can participate in the competition as well. You can also view the entries from other participants there. Wish me luck!

Swatch: OPI I Vant to be a Lone Star

Hey guys,

This is going to be a quick post. I did this a while ago. Three fast thin coats of I Vant to be a Lone Star. I wanted to get this polish because it is close to white, grey-ish blue actually. But I realized that this is too close to Borrowed and Blue.. so I ended up with two light blues.

These are the pics.. Enjoy!

*My bottle of I Vant To Be A Lone Star has since had an accident. It broke and the polish spilled. There's no saving it. So.. I do not have this polish anymore.. =(

Teal Foilage

I love LOVE teal polishes! I swear they look the best on my nails, other than pale yellow. Even pink doesn't look as nice. For today's mani, I brought out OPI Fly and stamped it over with a leaf-y design from Konad M83 using CG Re-fresh Mint. I have it in good authority that Re-fresh Mint is good for stamping.

To prevent a double-stamping disaster, since it is rather difficult to stamp twice and make it look aligned, I decided to make a unique design for my thumb. It does look cool though!

I think my stamping skills is improving.. won't you say so??

Experiment with Stamping Purple Flowers

When I did this, I was testing to see how far I could get with my stamping. The answer, apparently, is not very far. This experiment is fun, but it also requires stamping skills, which I sorely lack.

For this design, I tried out my CG Light As Air, and stamped it with the flowers in M84 with OPI Purple with a Purpose on my thumb, index and middle finger. After which I switched over to CG Gothic Lolita because the OPI Polish looks rather pale and faded in the stamps (yes, it only occurred to me to switch the polish after doing THREE fingers -.-)

If you look closely, you can see that some flowers are stamped over each other...

Conclusion: I would certainly try this again. I'm not one who gives up easily. I think it'll be easier to stamp with CG Light as Air so I'm gonna try that next time.

Swatch CG Gothic Lolita

I bought Gothic Lolita a while ago. I did not set out to buy this color.. I do not entirely like medium purple. I only have OPI Purple with a purpose and this, and I wore both rarely. I always reach for a blue or pink.. or a pale yellow if I want to cheer myself up.

Gothic Lolita has an odd metallic feel to it that I don't like. -.- I can see that this post is going to be pretty biased~ But it is an odd shade of purple so I bought it just in case I need this particular shade for my nail art.

This is two coats, smooth and opaque. I have a problem with CG brushes though. They are not like OPI, and with their pro-wide brushes, so it takes some maneuvering to get the colors on. Not a problem for people who paint their nails all day... Lol.

The Colorful Zebra

I saw a video about sponging recently and decided to try it again. I have not been very successful in sponging polishes other than glitters and I sort of gave up a while before. I gave it another try this time and I am quite satisfied with my results! The tip is to paint a white base and then sponge colors over the white.  It takes some maneuvering, but I think it looks awesome especially after I stamped zebra prints over it!

Used: Opi Alpine Snow, CG Lemon Fizz, CG Re-fresh Mint, OPI Pink Friday
Stamped with CG Liquid Leather with Konad Plate M57

Below: This is what it looks like before I stamped over it. I also painted a coat of tiny glitters that I bought from TheFaceShop at Westmall. For some obscure reason, the salespeople has a habit of talking to you even though you do not appear interested in ANYTHING other than the polishes. I find it annoying. But their glitter polishes are sooooo awesome!! Maybe I am too polite??

If you want to see the gold polish I bought from TheFaceShop, click here. I made a beautiful gold and black leopard print with it.

On the side note, do anyone recognize the background of this picture????

It's the yellow line at our MRT station! Haha. I'm the weird girl who took pictures of her nails in public places.

Easter - Cute Rabbit Mani!

Happy Easter Day!

Today, I'm showing a rabbit mani that I did for my sister a while ago. It was during March hols and she could do her nails since she has no school. I told her to find a design she like online so that I can do the same for her. In the end, she found this rabbit mani and another one with ribbon. I did a compromise, and did some ribbons, and some rabbits on her nails.

Used: OPI Alpine Snow, CG Liquid Leather, Essie Turquoise and Caicos, OPI Pink Friday

Tool: Dotting Tool and Nail Art Pen (Pink)

I'm rather surprised at how easy this is, I thought it would be hard, but it turns out to be a breeze.. and super fun to do!

How did you spend your easter?

Hey peeps,

I'm here with another giveaway! This giveaway is commemorating the blogger's birthday and blog anniversary. She's giving away fabulous prizes so do join in the fun! There are several stamping plates that look awesome (I do have to say.. my order from bornpretty is still in transit. I'm beginning to think it has been blown off course. In the mean time, I guess I shall be haunting the mailbox everyday. SIGH) and polishes. One can never have enough polishes, right??

Here, I shall wish her a Happy Birthday and a big THANK YOU for bringing us the giveaway.

Easter: Skittle Colors!

In lieu of Easter, I got out all my pale creamy polishes for this mani. I love all pale polishes.. the closer it is to white the better.. I don't buy the jelly-finish ones though. Now I'm eyeing OPI I vant to be a Lone Star. Hehe.

After wearing it plain for a while, I decide to paint black lines with CG Liquid Leather on the tips.

Giveaway at Sincerely Stephanie

I'm participating in another Giveaway at Sincerely Stephanie and she's giving away Revlon's Whimsical and Claire's Candy Shop! I don't know about you.. but I'm looking forward to getting my hands on Candy Shop!!

If you want to participate, you can see it here.

And while you are visiting the web, don't forget to check out the black and white challenge that is going on! There're plenty of amazing black and white nail art designs and worth looking at!

Chic Gold and Black Leopard Print

I bought a Gold polish from TheFaceShop at Clementi for $7.90 recently and I am soooooooo pleased with my purchase! I wanted to use it for stamping initially, since my other gold is too runny for stamping, but it turns out that this polish is too thin as well. I then decided to switch it as a base color and stamp black leopard prints over it! It turns out sooooo well!!!!

This is two perfect coats. As you can see, it's very shiny. Removing is easy too.

I'm so pleased with my leopard prints. I think I got the hang of stamping prints.. I'm going to wear this for my school alumni in may and kabooozed everyone with the glare of my nails!! ^^

Swatch: OPI I don't Give a Rotter-dam

Hey peeps,

Out of the many colorful polishes in the Holland collection, I only got my hands on two: Kiss me on my Tulips (I did a nail art with it here) and I don't Give a Rotter-dam. I don't Give a Rotterdam is a greyish blue with plenty of small silver glitters. I don't know if you can see it from the pic below, but it's the best pic I could post here (the rest are absolutely atrocious!) This is two coats, but it covers well, and is extremely easy to wear, just like all other OPI polishes.

I included a pic of the polish so that you can see the silver glitters in the bottle.

Ta-da! What's your take on this polish??

Polka Dots Frenzy

Okay, it's not much a frenzy... but..

First of all, Pardon for the bad BAD photos because I was in a rush.

I was looking for inspiration with my nails painted OPI Skull and Glossbones, and I grabbed my bottles of OPI Pink Friday and OPI Charged Up Cherry and went wild with the Dots. I was still messing around with the ideas of lace so it sort of stuck with me in my manis.

I didn't like the mani so I took it off after taking photos of it but my bf love it. Said it's abstract. The last time he said my nails were abstract was for my Chocolate cream nails. Not that he hated all my designs between now and then~

That's all! Thanks for dropping by!
