31 Day Challenge: Black and White

Today's challenge is Black and White! I came up with this nails while searching the net for something that is black and white. And I came across this picture. It is just full of squiggles and details. I thought that was quite interesting so I transferred it over to my nails!

And boy, did I had a fun time drawing all those squiggles! Haha. I used a small paintbrush. Though it was late when I did the nails, I actually felt energized after that!

Took this photos while I was studying. You can see my notes in the background. LOL. And the pen ink on my ring finger. I'm a messy note taker. >.< I wanted to take advantage of the lighting. Besides, black background gets boring after a while, no?

I used OPI Alpine Snow as base, and China Glaze Liquid Leather to draw the details.

That's it for today! The next challenge is Metallic!

31 Day Challenge: Violet

Well, I'm off to another challenge! Today's Violet, and I just take pick up the only dark purple polish that I could stand on my nails. Only pale lavender/purple looks nice on me but I do have a couple of dark purple polishes in my stash.. not sure why I got them in the first place since I seldom use them. I think I need to reflect on certain polishes in my stash. Why, I got more purples than yellows!

So, I brought out OPI Lincoln Park at Midnight, which is a really dark purple. After thinking about it, I decided to associate purple with crowns, since purple is a royal color after all. So I painted my nails full of crowns with China Glaze Passion.

It was actually supposed to be tiny crowns, but I'm not so skillful with tiny details, and my tiny crowns become medium crowns. Lol. The sharp edges gave me fits, and I have to go back with Lincoln to 'sharpen' the edges. I'm glad I used Passion because it was really opaque and saved me from having to go over the details too many times, which would increase the chances of making a mistake.

I'm enjoying the challenge so far. I've tried out quite a few designs that were on my to-do lists for a while.

31 Day Challenge: Blue

This challenge is really pushing me to try out new designs! ^^

Today's challenge is Blue! I've got plenty of blue polishes so that is not a problem. I thought I might do a leopard mani in blue but I went for a fishtail mani instead. There're plenty of how-to videos on this mani and I just anyhow pick one.

The base color is China Glaze Electric Beat. The fishtail is done with Orly Sweet Peacock and China Glaze Kinetic Candy. The glitter is Essie Set In Stones.

For this Fishtail mani, you do have to be careful about which 'direction' you are going, otherwise you'll have to redo it. I mixed up my left hand ones, and tried going over them but ended up getting thick polish that doesn't look good. So I took off this mani about an hour of doing it.

The next challenge is Violet!!

31 Day Challenge: Green

The photos aren't very impressive so I won't be putting up many.

Today's challenge will be Green. I'm not sure what to do so I'll be swatching a glitter. This is OPI Alpine Snow stamped over Orly Here Comes Trouble. I used BM-201 stamping plate.

And this is Here Comes Trouble By Itself. It's filled with super tiny green glitter that makes it super easy to put on. It just glide onto the nails. It also sparkles like crazy. I've got two Orlys and both really impress me!

There's a minor shrinkage on the index finger but it's not noticeable in real life.

That's it for Green. The next challenge is Blue!

31 Day Challenge: Yellow

Today's Challenge is Yellow! I love yellow because it really looks good on my nails! It's so bright and cheerful and striking! I only have two bottles in my stash but I went with the one I like, China Glaze Lemon Fizz. I think I need a new bottle soon. ^^

I think I was feeling pretty confused when I did this design. I wanted to do a leopard print, and I wanted to try out some ikat nails. So I ended up with a design that is somewhere in between. I had a fun time doing it though, and a good laugh at the end result.

I used China Glaze Lemon Fizz as the base color, then dotted Elianto 04 Eggshell, and used a brush to make brushy strokes around the dots with OPI Get In The Expresso Lane.

And I spammed the photos, because they're so pretty!

I went to work with these nails and since I just began taking on the duties of a cashier, sometimes I'd get poked and punctured by sharp nails when I tagged the clothes. Just the night before, I got two bleeding wounds. Small ones, but they certainly make their presence known when I accidentally pour polish remover over them! *Ouchy*

I think I'm going to go for the REAL ikat nails next time!

The next challenge will be Green!

31 Day Challenge: Orange

Today's theme is orange!!! I've only got 2 bright orange in  my stash: OPI In my Back Pocket, and OPI A Roll in the Hague. I wanted to do a sponging gradient but I thought I'd try out a new stamping technique: stamping with two colors!!

I've upgraded my stamping!! =)

And it looks so pretty!! Like sunset colors stamped!!
This is OPI A Roll In the Hague and OPI In My Back Pocket, stamped over base color OPI Alpine Snow.

This is BM-201 design. Most of my Bundle Monster stamping plates are still unused, yet I'm eyeing Cheeky Summer Plates. Haha. I'll get my hands on them..... one day.

I didn't notice that I got my colors upside down on my pinky until a while later. By then I was too lazy to change. It shall be an accent nail then. Lol.

The next challenge is Yellow!!

31 Day Challenge: Red

So, this is my first challenge. Red! I hate red polish on my nails, though I'm trying to be open minded about it since it is classy (on some people I think), and it is supposed to be a classic (there's a reason why they say classic red and not classic orange, or green or turquoise.) Still, I think red doesn't suit my skin color and made my nails look weird.

I was planning on another design for this challenge but I changed it last minute to throw in more pink (less red on my nails!) and some glitter! I've got Rainbow 11 and LushLacquer Pink Panther on my index and middle finger, and OPI Panda-monium Pink and LushLacquer Midnight Affair for the rest.

I've switched up the size of the pics.. Is it horribly big? I'm blogging from a netbook so the screen is not as big as a monitor so if it looks weird from a normal computer, do let me know and I'll switch it down.

One good thing about a big picture is that you can now see the glitters clearly!!! As well as my horribly dry fingers. Well, focus on the glitters and everything will be perfect!! ^^

Tomorrow is Orange day!!  Wheeee!!

The 31 Day Challenge!

I'm going to start my 31 Day Challenge! Seems like plenty of people are doing it now and it looks plenty of fun so I'm going to do it as well!! A year ago when I just started doing nail art, the 31 Day Challenge just started and it was absolutely wild! Everyone came up with crazy designs! The challenge started my habit of checking for nail updates everyday without fail, since it was a full month of frantic posting.

I won't be posting every single day, but I hope to post every other day. School just started and I'll still be working for the first few months, so it'll be quite busy. Better busy than doing nothing right?

This is the 31 Day Challenge. This pic was taken from ChalkBoardNails. She's doing her challenge now and her designs are so awesome!! Check hers out!

I think I like Roses

I never had any preferences of any sort when it comes to flowers. They are all flowers to me. I accept roses from my boyfriend because roses are romantic right? But all flowers are pretty and about same. And oh, they wither away so fast. I have a bunch of dead roses in my room and I can't bear to throw them away.

Roses on my Nails! These I can keep forever!

Polishes used: Background: OPI Pink Friday, OPI Alpine Snow
Roses: Essie HotSpot, Essie Mojito Madness, highlighted with Rainbow 11(Red) and Bioop H197(Green)

So to make the roses, I just grab my dotting tools and make appropriate dots and go over it with a small brush to make the roses more nicer looking.

I absolutely LOOOOOOVVVE this!! I don't want to take it off but the paint on my index finger peel off due to high stress at work so I get to change my nails..

I love the pic below!

Mustache Nails -- Like a Sir!

I was on the train back from work when I saw this girl carrying a bag that says 'I heart Mustache' with the heart and Mustache being drawn. So I got crazy and wanted to have that on my nails. It's on my to-do list for some time but I put it off because I knew the curves of the mustache are hard to do. I'm not going to say it was easy in the end, and mine was perfect.. because the truth is, it was bloody HARD.

This is my attempt.

I've included the site where they featured the video I followed. Here

I was running through my stash for a nice background color and decided on Essie A Crewed Interest. That was why I swatched it first. In the end, I decided that perhaps it looked better on a green background, like China Glaze Re-Fresh Mint. A Crewed Interest is too close to my skin color to have any outstanding contrast.

And my Mustaches are all slightly lopsided! Haha! It was really hard to draw the curves and I'm not sure if it was because my nails were narrow or what. Haha. Found an image of a gentleman online so I put it on my middle finger. Reminds me of 9Gag, which I'm an avid fan of.

Well, here is my -most likely only- attempt at Mustache Nails. I think I'll go for decals or stickers for an easier time! ^^

Essie A Crewed Interest

... is an orangey creame. It has a hint of pink and melon, but it's not particularly striking. I had to paint 3 coats because it was uneven and streaky.

I don't think it looks well on me so I'm going to let the pics to the talking..

Half Moon Owl Mani

I am getting a little paranoid about the yellow stains on my nails. I stopped painting my toes and they only recently grew out of the yellow stains. Asking me to stop polishing my fingernails is practically a torture, so that is not an option. I turned to halfmoon mani as a slow and tedious way to grow out the yellows.

And I saw this Owl Mani on ChalkBoardNails!

I not very good with doing half moons with the reinforcement sticker but I'm going to practice more! I do adore my owls! I like to do the eyes especially, because they animate the owls and make them look more alive!!

Polishes used: China Glaze Kinetic Candy, Electric Beat, Re-fresh Mint, Aquadelic, Liquid Leather
OPI In My Back Pocket, The 'It' Color

I followed what ChalkBoardNails did and it was pretty awesome. =)

Swatch: Zoya Trxie

Zoya Trixie has a weird formula. First up, it is a foil in which you can see the brushstrokes. Second, the formula is thin. Third, when a coat of Seche Vite is layered over it, it does not dry within seconds. Or five minutes. Or twenty. I bumped one nail and had to gently smooth it back (the lazy way, as opposed to taking off the whole polish and redoing it) and now I have fingerprints AND brushstrokes. Urgh!

Not buying Zoya anymore ~

Swatch: OPI A Roll In The Hague

Got this bottle out to swatch recently. Note that I say swatch, not do nail art or anything. Sometimes I feel like I'm only buying unusual colors to swatch and then proceed to discard it.

Anyway, this is a very sunset orange. You know when the sky turns bright red-orange during sunset? It reminds me of that. It is close to red though, but it is an orange.

This is three coats. I like OPI's consistency. Sometimes when I get sick of battling with lousy formula and brushes, I got back to the big brands... OPI, China Glaze, Essie.. They are the staples of nail polish stash.

I'm not sure if I like this color. It may be too close to red for me. Perhaps it'll look better if I did some nail art with it. What do you think of this color?

Jelly Sandwich: Cirque Ophelia

Got this bottle out because I have been lemming it for some time and when I finally got my paws on it, it sat desolately in my cabinet for a few weeks, forgotten. So I did a sandwich with it. I've seen many sandwich of Ophelia and they looked so pretty.

It is however not fun to do. I forgot that Cirque polishes are watery. Or rather, her glitter polishes have a thin formula which makes it hard for the glitter to get on the nails because more suspension (did I use it right?) than glitters stayed on the nails.

In other terms, Ophelia is a tricky polish that takes some maneuvering for the job to be well done.

I did the sandwich using OPI Don't Touch My Tutu and Cirque Ophelia.

What do you think, Aye or Nay?
